3000 tons Gold mine found in Sonbhadra Uttar Pradesh

As per the current reports by Geological Survey of India and Uttar Pradesh Directorate of Geology and Mining there is gold mine found in Sonbhadra District of Uttar Pradesh.

An estimate of 3,000 tons of gold reserve was found at Son Pahadi and Hardi Village area. Sonbhadra is considered as one of the backward district of the country.

Valuation of Gold Mine

According to current prices valuation of this Gold could be around 12 Lakh Crore. The area of Hill where the gold was found is approximately 108 hectares.

The UP government has started the process for allocation of blocks where gold is said to be found. The government has also constituted a seven-member team for auctioning of these blocks through e-tendering process.

The team will be geo-tagging the entire region and will submit its report to the Directorate of Geology and Mining, Lucknow by February 22.

Uttar Pradesh Directorate

As per the official letter of the Uttar Pradesh Directorate of Geology and Mining, 2,943.26 tonnes of gold reserve is said to be at Son Pahadi while 646.15 kilograms of gold is said to be at Hardi block. As per the World Gold Council, India currently has 626 tonnes of gold reserves. The new reserves are almost five times that amount and estimated at Rs 12 lakh crore.

Sonbhadra District Mining Officer K.K. Rai told IANS that a team of Department of Geology and Mining and Geological Survey of India (GSI) is engaged in this task.

He said that work on the site started after 2005 and the report has just been received. It is estimated to hold about 3,000 tonnes of gold.

Aerial Survey – Gold Mine

The GSI is conducting an aerial survey of the quarry area for which two helicopters have been deployed.

Rai said it is being assessed how much land comes under the revenue department and under the forest department so that the process of permission from the forest department for mining can begin.

The state government has also expedited the process of leasing these mines. For the mining, the process of geo-tagging has been started before the auction process. E-tendering will be done as soon as the demarcation work is completed.

Possibility of other Precious Minerals

There is also a strong possibility of presence of other precious minerals, including uranium, in the hills of the region.

Geophysical survey is underway by helicopter in many parts of the district. Electromagnetic and spectrometer devices are being used in the survey. Part of these instruments hangs under the helicopter which conducts a flying survey at an altitude of 60-80 meters above the ground surface.
